Legendary pianists, some from the "Golden Age", performing a program of bravura works from the Romantic repertoire.
The works on this CD might be heard in a piano recital, a piano competition, or perhaps as encores.
From the romantic and impressionist repertoire, each piece is played in the style of the times.
Transcriptions of Strauss waltzes alongside Fritz Kreisler playing some of his most popular tunes, this time on piano.
Some of the pianists on this CD, such as Rubinstein, Schmitz and Dumesnil introduced audiences to works by Granados and Albéniz, and thereby helped popularise Spanish piano music.
Among the rare items on this CD are three Rhapsodies (Op.11) composed and played by Erno Dohnányi.
